Stay focused and face your life. The story of Dayo and Rukayat.

Dayo and Rukayat Studied Engineering at a University in kwara State. They were both Classmates and after Five years of Studying hard, they both graduated. After graduation, Fate took them through different paths of life.

5 Years later, Rukayat after much frustration of securing a job, ended up as a Secretary in a Building firm earning 50,000 Naira monthly.

Meanwhile, Dayo on the other hand, couldn’t Secure a Job and ended up a Keke rider, He makes At least 5,000 daily and if he works for only 20 days in a month, He makes 100,000 Naira that month.

One Evening, Rukayat closed from work and was at the bus stop waiting for Keke when Dayo stopped. She hopped in when she discovered the Keke was going her way but little did she know it was Dayo. All through the journey, she was lost in her Phone.

She reached her bus Stop and after alighting, just when she was about paying, she took a look at the rider and their eyes met, wow! They were both happy.

“Is this you?” they both asked themselves simultaneously as if they planned it. Rukayat gave him money but Dayo insisted she keep it. He was happy to see her and for old time sake, he left the money for her even when she insisted that she wanted to pay. They both exchanged contact and left.

Well, Rukayat went home that night and was lost in thought. Not as if Dayo was looking bad but Dayo riding keke? She couldn’t wrap her head around it. She Pitied him. Felt Sorry for him. If Dayo had allowed her she would have paid him and beg him to keep the change.

Little did she know that, Dayo actually has another keke running for him, He is a Land owner and he is planning on developing it soon. But because he was riding a Keke, She felt Pity for him.

On the other hand, Dayo felt sorry for himself too. Before he slept that night, he remembered Rukayat, how neatly she dressed and nice she smells, “She must be earning over 300,000 Naira per month” he said to himself. He felt ashamed, He felt like a failure and he felt she was way ahead of him financially and otherwise.

Little did he know that, If Rukayat removes the transportation fare and feeding money from her monthly salary, it will take her at least 3 Months to earn what he earns monthly.

Sadly, this could be some of our reality, you measure your progress and success with that of your friends, Classmates and Relatives even with very limited information you have about them.

You think yours is worse because you look dirtier, you think yours is worse because you are not on Corporate wears, you think yours is worse because the other person acts and looks Nicer.

Stay Focused and Face your life. It’s not a competition. Stop Comparing things, you don’t have the full picture. Every one is running on his own lane. Be contented.

Be focused

Kuje Prison Warders Claim Terrorists Stole N82 million, $36,000 Cash Belonging To Inmates

Inmates held at Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja are threatening a deadly riot after officials claimed a large chunk of money kept for the prisoners had been carted away by Boko Haram insurgents who breached the facility on Tuesday night, two sources with information have informed Peoples Gazette.

The money had been kept with at least five prison officials, including those manning the commissary, for several months, officials said.

“One prison guard told 13 inmates this afternoon that all the money they kept with him had been stolen,” an official said. “He bluntly told them that the N26 million is no longer in his possession.”

The prison, about 43 kilometres southwest of downtown Abuja, was breached at about 10:00 p.m. by suspected Boko Haram insurgents. While some detainees refused to take advantage of the jailbreak, all prisoners affiliated with Boko Haram escaped, according to defence minister Bashir Magashi.

At least 84 Boko Haram assets were believed held at Kuje prior to the attack, which lasted about three hours without any consequential intervention from security forces. About 600 inmates escaped in total, although officials said some had voluntarily returned. Actual roll-call statistics remained unclear as of Wednesday evening, nearly 24 hours after the attack.

President Muhammadu Buhari visited the facility for a few minutes on his way to the airport on a foreign trip to Senegal Wednesday afternoon, inspecting the damage while assuring correctional managers of support.

As the president departed the scene, prisoners began shouting that they’d lost money during the raid, while some threatened violence should officials fail to return their cash.

“Yes, that is the problem we’re confronting now,” an official said when asked for corroboration Wednesday evening. “Some people lost money in naira while some lost in dollars.”

The official said the money belong

GEROGE STINNEY WAS INNOCENT – MAY YOUR SOUL KEEP RESTING

MAY YOUR SOUL KEEP RESTING.

WE REMEMBER June of 1944
George Stinney Jr. was the youngest person to be sentenced to death in the 20th century in the United States.
He was only 14 years old when he was executed in an electric chair.
During his trial, even on the day of his execution, he always carried a bible in his hands, claiming to be innocent.
He was accused of killing two white girls, 11-Year-old Betty, and Mary of 7, the bodies were found near the house where the teenager resided with his parents.
At that time, all members of the jury were white. The trial lasted only 2 hours, and the sentence was dictated 10 minutes later.
The Boy’s parents were threatened, and prevented from being present in the courtroom, and subsequently expelled from that city.
Before the execution, George spent 81 days in prison without being able to see his parents.
He was held in solitary confinement, 80 miles from his city. He was alone without the presence of his parents or a lawyer.
He was electrocuted with 5,380 volts in his head.
70 years later, his INNOCENCE was finally proven by a judge in South Carolina. George was innocent, later to find out Police Officers had set him up looking to blame someone for the murders.
May his innocent soul rest in peace.

She even cried bright blue tears, an after effect of the tattoos.

Since the incident, Luke has written a post on her Instagram in reflection: “It’s been five years since I lost my sight for three weeks and was completely incapable of being an independent person.

“The torturous procedure had me endure four syringe injections into each of my eyeballs.

“I cried blue tears for two days after the procedure was performed.”

Trying to accurately portray the length of her struggles, Luke got a tattoo of a woman crying blue tears inked on her chest.

And, in 2019, Luke told Barcroft TV: “I can’t even begin to describe to you what the feeling was like, the best thing I can give you is once the eyeball was penetrated with the ink, it felt like [the tattoo artist] grabbed 10 shards of glass and rubbed it in my eye.

“That happened four times per eye, that was pretty brutal.

“Unfortunately, my artist went too deep into my eyeball.

“If your eyeball procedure’s done correctly, you’re not supposed to go blind at all.

“I was blind for three weeks. That was pretty brutal.”

ANCIENT STORY: IPONRIKU VS OLOOLU (IPONRIKU P’OLOLU SI GEGE) FABLE OR FACT??

IPONRIKU., a dreadful war masquerade, he that fought, defeated, killed and beheaded OLOOLU during a superiority fight in Gege market right here in the city of Ibadan in 1928, and took his head away.

Baba Muri, popularly known as Baba Alowonle narrated the story in my presence in 1989 and I will spare some minutes with you to relate the story in details. This is one of many evergreen memories from my childhood experiences as a little boy growing up in IDIKAN, in the ancient city of Ibadan.

Baba Alowonle was a respected and brilliant storyteller, he narrated a lot of never-been-told stories of the gone years. It was true he had that knowledge. His gift of story telling was unequalled and unparalleled…, you would be forced to listen to him as suspense would grow after suspense which would pin you down to listen to him with undivided attention. I used to think if baba Muri had gone to school he probably could beat Chinua Achebe in storytelling competition, (Lol). I give it to him.

On that day, I was sent to grind pepper in his shop.

Baba Alowonle ran a one-stop grinding shop where grinding of foodstuffs of all kinds could be done, his shop was located beside Alade Suleiman’s house just directly opposite Idikan Baptist Primary School in Ibadan.

Baba Alowonle was very popular in IDIKAN street between the 80’s and the 90’s, he was a fine agile old man in his early 60s at that time, with a big bank of knowledge of history.

I was asked, or rather forced to sit and wait because a technician was fixing the grinding machines he would use for us, some other women were there too, waiting to grind beans, corns, dried yam tubers known as ‘elubo’ and etc., and few minutes later a girl came and queued behind me.

We were about five in number waiting and wanting to grind different things one after the other according to the order of our arrival in ascension.

Muritala, his son, who suffered from sickle cell anaemia sat at one corner by the pathway that led into their house at the back of the shop. Muritala was my classmate in the primary school.

And Muili, his apprentice, and Lateef, Muri’s younger brother, were busy fetching water from the well in the middle of the compound.

While we waited, baba Alowonle threw a big chunk of cola-nut in his mouth and began to smash it between his upper and lower molars, the crush sound was audible as the cola-nut surrendered and lost its strength between his teeth, and immediately he began to sing joyfully:

IPONRIKU P’OLOLU SI GEGE, P’OLOLU,
IPONRIKU P’OLOLU SI GEGE, P’OLOLU.

One among the women became restless and turned to baba Alowonle, “Baba is it true that Iponriku killed Oloolu ?” She asked enthusiastically.

Baba Alowonle stopped singing and he cleared his throat, he gave a nod to indicate he wanted to begin to tell the story. He definitely enjoyed being depend upon for clues in such situation, as he was ready to share his story he knew they didn’t know.

Though, I had heard people singing that trite song many times but I had thought it was a mere fairytale. Baba Alowonle was ready to narrate the story and I really wanted to listen and learn. Maybe he really wanted to divert our attention and while-away the time while the technician busied working on his grinding machines.

Many things still flash through my mind from the huge log of events from my childhood in Idikan Ibadan. The evergreen jamborees of Egungun festival can never be swept under the carpet of the gone years just like that.

The days of:
Oloolu,
Alapansanpa,
Atipako,
Amoniloju Baba Morili,
Abidi-Elege,
Oyii,
Ayilere,
Jalaruru,
and Adeyi were few among the known-by-all Egungun in Ibadanland at that time.

From Oopo-yeosa down to the Ibikunle, Ayeye-Agbaje to Asukuna, Beere-Alekusho to Orita-merin. Fom Oje to Labo and Aremo, we would trek as many miles as we could following any masquerade of our choice.

As a child of dedicated deacon in one of the biggest church in the city of Ibadan at that time, I knew hell would be waiting for me at home if my father knew I had been catching fun by following egungun around the town.

One among the masquerades that used to captivate my interest among all was IPONRIKU. But why?

IPONRIKU was believed to be the most feared and powerful. We were told he killed OLOOLU and had his head taken away with him. And that truly added to his prestige among other masquerades we knew about at that time.

But how far is this true? Baba Muri confirmed it was true.

According to him, sometime before the second world war, OLOOLU had a superiority feud with IPONRIKU.

Honestly, OLOOLU was supposed to be the most dreadful masquerade in Ibadanland because no woman had ever seen him and remained alive to tell her story.

Markets, schools, worship houses like churches and mosques must be closed down, and streets must be abandoned and empty.

That was the only time ever when boys and men were considered equal. Women and girls must be kept in the closets of their houses. The mere threats of sounds of their feet could kill as fear would hold their breaths to ransom, men were superior indeed.

The man behind OLOOLU cloak, the one that carried the masquerade regalia at that time was a short dark skin man, with a tribal marks that resembled the that of chief Adedibu.

On his shoulder there was always a dried human skull.

There was another legendary story about the dry skull: it was widely believed that the skull was his own daughter’s. His daughter ran into him while he was still wearing the masquerade regalia, it was a taboo. The girl die on the spot and he severed her head. Truly if he could kill his own daughter like that, then tell me whose daughter he won’t kill for disrespecting the tradition and violating the taboo?

Unlike other masquerade, he never covered his face with mask and always held in his hand a big wooden scoop, ‘Igbako’.

It was believed the magical scoop was a tool he used in drying up the blood of his victims before cutting their heads.

For nearly two decades I knew him, I never witnessed where he killed anybody. The stories of killing and cutting of heads started and ended only in the rumours peddled around by his admirers.

OLOOLU masquerade would roam the whole city of Ibadan on his bare feet in the midst of several thousands of men with wild beating of drums, but wherever he would go, all female living creatures must not meet or see him face to face.

According to baba Alowonle, IPONRIKU had warned OLOOLU not to pass through his street around Gege area where today is known as BORN-FOTO, but OLOOLU defied his warning, and IPONRIKU angrily vowed to deal with him mercilessly if he could dare him once again.

On the last day of OLOOLU roaming that year which was a Thursday…, IPONRIKU gathered seven of his senior wives outside, all of them tied black wrappers while their heads were left shaved off and they were told to be pounding empty mortals with pestles inside the burning sun on that day.

IPONRIKU himself sat by one corner watching over them. He had warned OLOOLU and was waiting for him to defy his order.

Not too long when the sound of OLOOLU’s heavy drumbeat was heard from far, IPONRIKU stood up and the tempo of pounding by his wives was elevated.

The massive followers of OLOOLU knew the implication of the impending war between the two powerful men and they stayed aloof in order to prevent possible inflictions during the battle.

OLOOLU dared IPONRIKU and he was able to bring down one of the IPONRIKU’s wives and took to his heels, IPONRIKU ran after him and was able to catch up with him at the deserted GEGE market junction where both engaged each other in war-like confrontation, IPONRIKU was able to overpower OLOOLU while he rendered him unconscious. He took out his sword and cut-off OLOOLU ‘s head. He took his head and his masquerade regalia away with him.

The news of the incident spread across the city of Ibadan and beyond.

The colonial authority brought the situation under control as quickly as possible before it escalated to a full-blown war among the people, especially amongst the two opposing followers, and the government hence came up with strict regulations against the traditional and ritual practices among the locals at the time.

Egungun festival was banned for several years to suppress the bitterness and needless calls for reprisal attacks.

That was the end of baba Alowonle’s narration, IPONRIKU fought and killed OLOOLU in 1928.

Don’t let us forget that a similar incident took place in the 80’s between the new generation of OLOOLU and AJAGBE-MO-KEFERI (a popular Islamic scholar who was famous in the 80’s), who also warned OLOOLU not to pass through his street.

OLOOLU disregard the warning and that nearly became a religious war between the traditionalists and Islamic community at that time.

The situation was brought under control by the stern interference of the then military administration at that time.

Iponriku p’Oloolu si Gege, p’Oloolu.

I don’t know how far true was the story, but I remember we sang the trite song always at that time as little kids.

GISTInspector General Of Police, Usman Alkali Baba Has Ordered The Arrest And Probe Of Burna Boy (Details on)

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the arrest, and probe of the policemen attached to popular musician Burna Boy who was involved in a shooting at Club Cubana on Victoria Island.

The IGP in a statement through the Force PRO, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said “the Police personnel alleged and identified in the shooting incident at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, have been taken into custody and are being investigated for their involvement in the incident”.

The IGP, who described the circumstances surrounding the incident as unbelievable, has however condemned, in the strongest terms, the unfortunate incident.

He directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi, to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and forward his report as urgently as possible for further action.

Here’s what was earlier reported.

Lagos State Police Commissioner’s Special Squad detained five policemen attached to Burna Boy, for attempted murder after they shot two fun seekers— Irebami Lawrence and another identified simply as Tolu, at Club Cubana on Wednesday.

According to a preliminary report by the Bar Beach Police Division, trouble started when the singer and five police escorts visited the nightclub around 4am on June 8.

About four policemen waited outside while one of the policemen, identified as Inspector Ibrahim, who was in mufti, accompanied the Grammy-Award-winning artiste into the club.

According to multiple witness statements, the singer was in the VIP section with three women when he spotted another woman.

He was reported to have told Ibrahim to invite the woman to join him. However, the lady’s husband was said to have lambasted the singer, insisting that it was disrespectful for any man to make advances at his wife.

After some minutes, Burna Boy reportedly made fresh advances at the woman. This infuriated her husband further and his friends who had gathered at the club.

“As things were getting heated, Ibrahim brought out his service pistol and shot multiple times while Burna Boy was laughing,” said a senior policeman.

In the process, 27-year-old Lawrence was shot in the thigh while his friend, Tolu, was hit in the head by a bullet. This caused a commotion in the club.

It was learnt that Burna Boy and his crew then drove off to one of his properties at the Elegushi end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway before leaving for Lekki Phase 1.

“Aware of what he had done, Burna Boy took the next flight out without even informing the policemen. He only made a video call to them to inform them that he had travelled to Spain.

All his police escorts have been arrested and are currently at the Command headquarters,” said a top source at the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

Sources close to the victims said the police were already making attempts to protect Burna Boy because of his status while the victims were treating their wounds at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

U.S. says convicted R&B singer R. Kelly deserves more than 25 years in prison

U.S. prosecutors on Wednesday said the multiplatinum R&B singer R. Kelly deserves to spend more than 25 years in prison after being convicted of sex trafficking.

In a filing in Brooklyn federal court, prosecutors said Kelly exploited his stardom and wealth over a quarter century to lure women and underage girls for sex, demonstrating a “callous disregard” for his victims and showing no remorse.

“Indeed, the defendant’s decades of crime appear to have been fueled by narcissism and a belief that his musical talent absolved him of any need to conform his conduct – no matter how predatory, harmful, humiliating or abusive to others – to the strictures of the law,” prosecutors said.

Kelly, 55, who has been jailed since 2019, remains a “serious danger” to the public, justifying keeping him behind bars until well into his 70s, prosecutors added.

Jennifer Bonjean, a lawyer for Kelly, has said he should spend fewer than 14 years in prison, and will in a filing next Monday explain why his “history and characteristics” justify a shorter sentence.

Bonjean’s office declined to comment.

Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, faces a minimum 10-year term at his June 29 sentencing.

He is among the most prominent people convicted of sexual misbehavior during the #MeToo movement against such conduct by prominent men.

Kelly’s 5-1/2 week trial amplified accusations that had dogged him since the early 2000s.

Testimony from 45 government witnesses, including several of Kelly’s abuse victims, portrayed in often graphic detail an unseemly side to a music career highlighted by the 1996 Grammy-winning smash “I Believe I Can Fly.”

REPEAT OFFENDER

Witnesses said Kelly would demand that his victims strictly obey rules such as needing his permission to eat or go to the bathroom, calling him “Daddy,” and writing “apology letters” that purported to absolve him of wrongdoing.

“The defendant severely physically and psychologically scarred all of his victims repeatedly and consistently,” prosecutors said. “The government has little doubt that if afforded an opportunity to offend again, the defendant would.”

Much of the case turned on accusations related to six women.

They included the singer Aaliyah, who prosecutors said Kelly fraudulently married when she was 15 to conceal abuse from when she was 12 or 13. Aaliyah died in 2001.

Jurors needed a little over a day to convict Kelly last Sept. 27 on all nine counts he faced.

The charges included racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting people across state lines for prostitution.

Many of Kelly’s accusers were Black, differentiating his conviction from those of comedian Bill Cosby and movie producer Harvey Weinstein since #MeToo began in 2017. Cosby’s conviction was overturned last June.

Kelly has repeatedly denied sexual abuse accusations. He also faces federal charges in Chicago on child pornography and obstruction, and state charges in Illinois and Minnesota.
